Josh Halman Biography

Josh began teaching himself mandolin in the winter of 1999 after having played acoustic guitar for 8 years prior. Two months after first picking up the mandolin, he helped form the bluegrass/folk band “Cactus in the Grass.”
After playing throughout Vermont for a year, Josh went to Israel for his junior year abroad, and was a member of the “Arava Riders” bluegrass quartet. once stateside again, Josh focused his energies on mandolin/guitar duet performances and worked tirelessly on his tenor vocals, trying to stay as true to traditional harmonies as possible.
His influences include Bill Monroe, David Grisman, Jimmy Gaudreau, and Mike Compton among others. Josh lives in Monkton, Vermont.
